PROFILE:

FIFL Experience: The league's all-time leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns... Named to the American Conference All-Pro Team in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, and the National Conference All-Pro Team in 2008. In 2008, became oldest WR to receive this honor... a year that he finished 1st in receiving touchdowns, 3rd in receptions and 5th in yards. Named Offensive Player of the Game 9 times in his career. Currently holds the record for the most receiving yards in a game with a 9 catch, 260 yard, 1 TD performance in week 6 of the 1999 season (13-27 loss @ Texas). Also ranked second in this category when he had a 14 catch, 248 yard, 2 TD game in week 9 of the 2002 season (20-7 win vs Fort Wayne). Ranked #1 all-time in receptions with 724, and #2 in receiving yards with 9,528. Had amazing back-to-back 100 reception, 1,400 yard seasons in 2002 and 2003. Traded to the Dayton Skyhawks in a multi-player deal in week 8 of the 2005 season. Enters 2009 season with Fort Wayne, Payton's 6th team.

Professional Experience: Payton led the af2's Louisville Fire with 102 receptions for 1,450 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2002. He also led the team with 1,793 all-purpose yards. Payton scored 126 of the Fire's 514 points. He was the Fire's sixth leading tackler with 19.5 stops. . He began the 2001 season with the New Jersey Gladiators. He played for New Jersey in 2000 hauling in 31 receptions for 430 yards and eight touchdowns. Payton also threw a 21 yard touchdown pass in 2000. He began his career in 1999 with the Dayton Skyhawks of the Indoor Football League. Payton led the Skyhawks in receptions, receiving yards and set records for most yards, most receptions and longest kickoff return in a game.

College: While at Division II Kentucky Wesleyan, Payton set a KWU record with 245 receiving yards vs. Campbell in 1996. His 245 yards was third highest in the NCAA that season. Payton was named captain his senior year and played in the 1996 National Collegiate All-Star Game.

Personal: The Leesville, Louisiana native played high school football in Germany and was named best high school player in the country as well as being named to the All-Europe team in 1990 at Stuttgart High School. Payton enjoys working out and playing the piano. In the off-season, he works as a personal trainer.
