FIFL Experience: Guided the Steel Valley
Smash to the Conference Finals in 1999... Harris has been
unlucky when it comes to ownership... Traded to Duluth in
2000 in a trade for QB Josh Luedtke... New ownership in Duluth
could not get along with the vocal Harris, so he was soon
traded to Fargo... At the end of the 2000 season, and with
a new owner in Fargo, Harris was once again traded to the
dismal Lincoln Lightning franchise. Has averaged 17 touchdowns
and 3,200 yards during his first 3 seasons... All-time leading
rushing QB with 1,320 yards... One of two QB's with 20,000
career passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards (Monte Christo
is the other).
Professional Experience: Drafted in the
12th round by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1990 NFL Draft,
but later released...Before the 1990 AFL season, Bob Gries,
the son of a Cleveland Browns minority shareholder, purchased
the Tampa Bay Storm from the AFL and Pittsburgh's Civic Arena.
He immediately went after college-standout Major Harris. Gries
offered Harris a contract that would be one of the highest
even today, but the West Virginia QB rejected and went to
the CFL....Harris played in the CFL in 1990 playing for the
B.C. Lions...Harris was 18 of 42 for 300 yards with three
touchdowns and three interceptions...also ran for 145 yards
and three touchdowns on 19 carries...Played rookie season
of AFL in 1991 for the Columbus Thunderbolts...In 1991, Harris
set the AFL record for rushing yards in a single season as
he ran for 429 yards...Harris played for Columbus/Cleveland
Thunderbolts from 1991-92, and in 1994...In 2001, he was in
the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals camp competing with Akili Smith
for the quarterback position and last year, he was in several
AFL team camps.
College: Played at West Virginia from
1987-1989, earning team MVP each season...Finished third in
the Heisman Trophy in 1989 behind QB Andre Ware and RB Anthony
Thompson...named to the schools All-Century team...lead
the Mountaineers to an 11-0 record in 1988...In 1988, led
the Mountaineers to an 11-0 record before losing to Notre
Dame in the Fiesta Bowl...then, in Harris' senior year, they
were 8-2-1 before losing to Clemson in the Gator Bowl.
Personal: Hometown:
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
