FIFL Experience: Drafted in the 1st round
of the 2012 FIFL Draft (9th overall) by the Mobile Seagulls.
Had 2 kickoff returns for 6 yards in 2021.
Professional Experience: Signed as an
undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers on 4/23/02 and
later released. Signed as a free agent by the Baltimore Ravens
on 8/12/02 and later released. Signed as a free agent by the
Green Bay Packers on 1/8/03. Played for the Frankfurt Galaxy
in NFLE in 2003, helping the top-ranked unit surrender just
182 points this season, fewest in NFL Europe. He finished
tied for the league lead with four interceptions, totaled
29 tackles, nine passes defensed and one forced fumble. Unertl
was a five-game starter at safety, and six game starter at
cornerback, he helped the Galaxy win World Bowl XI. Began
his AFL career with the Las Vegas Gladiators in 2004 where
in 6 games he had 13 total tackles (11,2). Moved to Columbus
half-way through 2005 where he had 57 total tackles (43,14)
and had an interception for 9 yards. Started the 2006 season
with Columbus but moved to Chicago where he made an instant
impact with the Rush where he had 88 total tackles (66,22)
with 9 interceptions for 108 yards (12.0) and a TD... The
Rush went on to win the Arena Bowl where he was voted Team
MVP.
College Experience: During his freshman
year at La Crosse in 1997, Eagles secondary coach Barry Schockmel
impressed upon Unertl how much talent he had. After suffering
a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament in August 1998, Unertl
became a three-year starter at free safety.
